Smithdon students welcome community to annual show
The Hunstanton community was treated to an evening of free entertainment when we opened our doors for our fifth annual summer concert.
The aptly titled ‘Smithdon’s Got Talent’ showcased some 60 singers, dancers, actors and artists from Years 7 to 11.
There were also performances from pupils at fellow West Norfolk Academy Trust schools; Heacham Junior and Snettisham Primary, who joined the orchestra.
Highlights of the event included our choir singing a medley of Disney songs to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the famous studio, along with a performance from the Ukulele Club, and appearances from several soloists from across the year groups.
“Events like this are so important to us here at Smithdon,” said our Music Lead, Andrea Miller. “We love nothing more than being able to support our students in showing off their accomplishments and hard work.
“We have made a really big effort this year to reach out more into our Hunstanton and wider community to invite them into our school to experience these events.
“We hope to continue this effort, and we hope that the more people who come in will spread the word of our amazing work here at Smithdon. It is wonderful to be able to show our community the great work and talent of our students.”
There was also a sneak preview of our Christmas musical too, with the 20-strong cast of Frozen Jr performing songs from the popular show, complete with solos from Ellie Proctor in Year 8, who sang ‘For the First Time in Forever’ as Anna, and Martha Smith as Elsa, also in Year 8, who sang ‘Let It Go’.
It was also the first time that our Year 11 leavers had taken part in the summer concert, treating the audience to one final performance before graduating from the school, having recently completed their end-of-year exams.
As well as musical talents, the free-of-charge event included artwork on display throughout the evening, and refreshments provided by the catering students.
