Welcome to Smithdon High School. Some of you that are transitioning to this school may feel that this is a daunting experience. Starting high school is an exciting new chapter of life filled with opportunities to learn and make new friends. It is normal to feel a mixture of excitement and nervousness about moving to a new school as a lot of things can be different. Luckily, at Smithdon High School, there are many supportive students and teachers ready to help.

When I first joined Year 7, I found it quite scary but was soon put at ease by all the friendly staff and students. I have now been going to Smithdon High School for almost five years and I have really enjoyed all my time here as it is a really good environment to be in. In school, there are many co-curricular activities encouraged for everyone to take part in, such as concerts and musicals, sport clubs, and Dungeons and Dragons activities. There are also many trips that take place, for example, local theatre trips and overseas trips such as those to Italy and Holland. I take part in some of these co-curricular activities and find that they are excellent opportunities to make new friends and experience new things.

Don't be afraid to ask questions if you are unsure about something, as teachers, support staff, and older students are always there to guide you. All the teachers at Smithdon High are incredibly supportive and dedicated to providing education.

Every day is a chance to learn something new, make new memories, and become the best version of yourself. Believe in your abilities, and enjoy all the opportunities that lie ahead in your future schooling life. I am very proud to be a part of this diverse community and look forward to you joining us at Smithdon.

Welcome to Smithdon High School. For those of you that are just joining us in year 7, I imagine some of you will be feeling nervous about transitioning to high school. However, I can assure you do not have to worry.  I joined the school not really knowing many people, and I was nervous too. Looking back I shouldn’t have been. The staff are very welcoming, as are all of our students. 

As I am heading into my fifth and final year at Smithdon, I can say that I have made some friends with people I thought I wouldn’t even speak to when I started. I have made some memories that I will remember for a long time.

There are many opportunities throughout your time here. There are many trips, for example, the ones that are run to Pleasurewood Hills in Years 8 and 9. The wonderful staff have also run trips to PGL Adventure,  Italy and France, and there is even one planned for New York. There are many clubs and co-curricular activities, such as sports clubs and chess clubs. There are school productions that anyone is welcome to take part in. I suggest that you should get involved, as there are some amazing opportunities to get to know new students and staff alike.

The staff are what make up our wonderful school. Never be afraid to ask for help for advice, they will always be there to support you when you need it. They want everyone to have a wonderful education here and secure all qualifications needed.

Every day, I can say I am proud to be a part of Smithdon High School. I hope this has made you feel at ease a bit before joining, and I hope to see you all soon as you take the next step into your school life.
