A Grade 4 in the new GCSE grading system is broadly equivalent to a C grade in the previous GCSE grading system; a Grade 7 is broadly equivalent to an A grade.
We will report the progress your child is making regularly at Smithdon High School and we will use the new grading system.
When we report progress we will make a professional prediction based on current assessment as to what we think your child will achieve at the end of Year 11; this is called the Predicted Grade and should be compared against the Target Grade to understand how well your child is doing.
We generate targets based on how well children performed at the end of primary school; because we want every child to excel, our targets are in line with the highest performing students nationwide.
It is important that targets are not viewed as a ceiling to progress; at Smithdon High School, students regularly overachieve.
